Belly pan seams & fasteners

Where to find it. The corrugated plastic or sheet-metal underbelly of a camper, and every seam, screw head and overlap in it.

Belly pan seams & fasteners
How it works & how to apply it

Underbelly sheets flex constantly while towing. Over a season the screws work loose and the overlaps open into quarter-inch slits, which is all a mouse needs. Sealing the seams stops entry into the floor cavity, where insulation and plumbing runs live.

1·2·3 How to apply it

  1. Inspect the full underbelly for sagging panels, torn corners and missing screws. Replace or retighten fasteners first.
  2. Run a two-inch stripe of gel directly along every overlapping seam and drop edge.
  3. Dab a heavy blob over each exposed screw head and washer.
  4. Pay particular attention to the perimeter, where the belly sheet meets the frame.

Things to consider

  • Do the repairs before the gel. A torn belly sheet needs tape or a patch, not a coating.
  • Fresh damage, droppings or shredded insulation above the sheet means you already have tenants. Deal with that first.
  • A gallon covers a full 25 to 40 foot underbelly with product left for the rest of the rig.

Things to avoid

  • Do not rely on gel to bridge a hole. It seals seams and gaps, it does not patch a tear.
  • Do not coat the dump valve handles or anything you need to operate.
  • Do not skip the corners. Corners are where the sheet pulls away first.
