Slide-out mechanisms

Where to find it. Slide rails and gear tracks, hydraulic and cable arms, and the wall opening the arm passes through.

Slide-out mechanisms
How it works & how to apply it

A retracted slide-out leaves a gap at the wall pass-through and a bracket arm that runs straight from the chassis into the living space. It is a covered, dry, undisturbed route, which is exactly what a rodent is looking for in October.

1·2·3 How to apply it

  1. Bring the slide-outs fully in, to the position the rig will sit in for storage.
  2. Inspect the underside of each slide and the lower corner seals for gaps and light.
  3. Paint the top and both sides of the steel support arm where it passes through the frame and wall.
  4. Brush around the bottom corner perimeter where the bulb seal meets the sidewall.

Things to consider

  • Treat with the slide in the stored position, so you coat the surfaces that will be exposed all winter.
  • This is a good moment to check the bulb seals. A perished seal needs replacing, not coating.
  • Multi-slide fifth wheels have four or more of these. A gallon covers them all with product left over.

Things to avoid

  • Do not coat the gear rack teeth, the drive gear or the slide rollers. Those need to stay clean and lubricated.
  • Do not get gel on the sweep seal face that wipes the wall as the slide moves.
  • Do not apply with the slide extended and then retract it. You will wipe the coating straight off.
