Where to treat

• Both bottom corners of the overhead door, where the seal curves and wears.
• The base of each overhead-door jamb, about a foot up.
• The threshold and jamb base of every side door.
• The sill line where the framing meets the slab, right around the inside perimeter.
• Utility penetrations through the wall: water, gas, electrical and any hose bib.
• The bases of workbenches, shelving uprights and stored equipment.
• The wall shared with the house, if the garage is attached.

1·2·3 How to do it here

1. Close the door and look for daylight at the corners from inside a darkened garage. That shows you the gaps.
2. Sweep the sill line clear of dust and grit so the gel has sound material to grip.
3. Run a roller along the long straight sill, then brush the door corners and jamb bases by hand.
4. Finish with the wall penetrations and the bases of anything stored on the floor.

✕ Watch out for

• Do not coat the moving rubber face of the door seal, only the frame and corners it closes against.
• Keep it off the floor where people walk or cars are driven, since it stays tacky enough to pick up grit.
• Do not treat around the photo-eye safety sensors at the base of the door track.
• Do not bother treating a building that has bird seed, pet food or grass seed in open sacks. Move those to sealed bins first.
