Where to treat

• The trailer tongue, frame rails and spring hangers, the route up from the ground.
• The console and helm, at every cable pass-through.
• The battery compartment perimeter and the cable entries into it.
• The engine cowling seam and the rigging tube where cables enter the hull.
• Drain plug openings, live-well penetrations and bilge access points.
• On snowmobiles and ATVs, the seat base, airbox and wiring looms under the bodywork.

1·2·3 How to do it here

1. Treat the trailer first, from the ground up, before you touch the boat itself.
2. Open the console and battery compartment and collar every opening you find.
3. Work around the engine and rigging tube, keeping clear of intakes and outlets.
4. Do this before the cover goes on, not after, and check the cover for gaps at the bow and transom.

✕ Watch out for

• Keep it off the propeller, prop shaft, trim rams and any polished or anodized surface on display.
• Do not coat engine cooling water intakes or exhaust outlets.
• Do not apply to upholstery, canvas covers or clear enclosure panels.
• Do not rely on the cover alone. A covered boat is more attractive to a rodent, not less.
