Storage & More

Storage units, enclosed trailers, tractors, mowers, generators and equipment parked in fields or gravel lots.

Equipment left standing in a field or a gravel lot is the easiest target on any property. There is no door to close and no one checking on it. A tractor cab or a mower deck offers shelter, wiring and foam, and nothing is noticed until it will not start.

Where to treat

  • Cab door seals, floor pan penetrations and the wiring loom entries on tractors and combines.
  • Mower decks, engine shrouds and the underside of the seat pan.
  • Generator enclosures, at the vent frames and cable entries.
  • Enclosed trailer floor edges, door thresholds and the tongue.
  • Storage unit door tracks, threshold and the sill line inside.
  • Air intakes and exhaust openings on stored engines, treated around the opening rather than into it.

1·2·3 How to do it here

  1. Clear out any existing nesting material and check the wiring before you treat anything.
  2. Start at ground contact points: tires, tracks, jacks, stands and the tongue.
  3. Work up to the openings that lead into cabs, decks and enclosures.
  4. Note what you treated. Equipment that sits for months benefits from a check partway through the season.
How much you need. A gallon is the practical choice for a lot with several machines. A quart covers a single tractor or mower.

Watch out for

  • Do not pack gel into an air intake, exhaust outlet or cooling fin. Treat the frame around the opening.
  • Keep it off hydraulic ram surfaces, PTO shafts and anything that slides or rotates in service.
  • Do not coat operator controls, steps or handles.
  • Do not treat over heavy loose rust or flaking paint without knocking the loose material off first.
